A Miles City Meander

No one leaves Miles City a stranger. Expect smiles and waves from the locals on your first stroll through Main Street, plan on the patrons at the Hole in the Wall to ask where you're from, and don't be surprised when the waiter at the Iron Horse Supper Club remembers your drink from the night before.

This tiny town's roots run deep—something that's as evident in the extensive Range Riders Museum as in the old-fashioned way the town gathers at the outdoor ice rink or the bowling alley. Miles City is still very much a cowtown, evidenced in part by the Beef Breeder's Show in February. But nowhere does the town's neighborly hospitality, historic past and rancher roots come together like they do in the Montana Bar—a friendly rancher's meeting spot, virtually unchanged since opening day in 1908.

Cowtown Beef Breeders Show, Craft Expo And Ag Trade Show

The first Friday in February, Miles City's main drag turns into a giant stock show. It's kind of a three-way celebration: a huge array of bulls, an indoor craft expo, and a ranching equipment show. Expect real cowboys ...

You would never expect to find this little art haven in a water treatment plant, repurposed into art galleries and showing Western and local art shows throughout the year. We love seeing Montana's beauty interpreted by local artists.

The Iron Horse Supper Club

We were a little scared of the outside (a kind of pink building with a plastic sign, in an industrial part of town) but braved it anyway—so glad! The interior is a 180...tres chic with leather armchairs, low ...
