Kings, Springs, and Other Wintry Things

The King’s Hill Scenic Byway highlights the majesty of the mountains. By the time you get to Niehart, you’ll be free of hustle and bustle and in prime position to take over the uncrowded trails at Montana’s oldest ski hill, Showdown Montana. That is, if you aren’t already cruising Silvercrest’s cross-country trails, hurtling down the sledding hills (complete with warming huts) and cutting loose on 240 miles of groomed snowmobile trails.

Once you’re sufficiently snow-sported, recuperate down the road in White Sulphur Springs with a hot springs soak, a fresh-made Corner Stone Deli sandwich and an evening of movies and mozzarella at Stageline Pizza’s “dine-in” theatre. Afterwards, conk out at the comfy All Seasons Hotel—unless you’re still itching for more. If that’s the case, snowshoe out to a Forest Service cabin and wake up to King’s Hill’s royal recreation offerings, right out the front door.
