Good to Great Falls Weekend

Cowboy culture clashes right into 1960s kitsch to create the singular appeal of Great Falls. By day, you're in full John Wayne mode, absorbing frontier artifacts and Wild West artwork at the CM Russell Museum and reliving Native American history at the First Peoples Buffalo Jump State Park. By night, you're sliding into a cracked red vinyl booth at Eddie's Supper Club to feast on Campfire steaks. And the colorful atmosphere doesn't stop there: last-of-the-true-tiki-bars The Sip N' Dip features live swimming mermaids.

Good thing you can atone for last night’s red meat and rum with a stroll, jog, bike or hike on Great Falls’ River’s Edge Trail, which winds along the waterfalls of the Missouri and shows off railroad history, local skateboard talent, and wide open spaces along the way. Or, just track down a little hair of the dog: along the drive, you'll find tiny Belt, Montana, proud home to the Harvest Moon Brewing Company.

Rivers Edge Trail

Probably the best thing about Great Falls. I have at some point rollerbladed, biked, hiked, mountain biked, jogged, longboarded, and strolled this trail along its 40 miles. (All I need now is a pogo stick.) It’s got single-track branching ...
