A Dillon Winter Weekend

The finer things in life, minus the refinement. In Dillon, it's a tie as to whether the most gourmet fare in town is served out of Sparky's Garage (complete with oil-rag napkins), or La Fiesta Mexicana, a converted “taco bus.” Here, world-class powder comes courtesy of wallet-friendly one-lift-wonder Maverick Mountain, and even Patagucci is perpetually on sale at Patagonia® Outlet.

From Dillon, you can tour one of Montana's best preserved ghost towns, Bannack, for the price of a snowmobile rental, or spend your entire stay soaking, dining and staying at rustic, reasonable Elkhorn Hot Springs. If you're a penny-pincher who prefers hot mineral soaks to hot towels and onion rings to 24-karat ones, then Dillon's your kind of town.

Bannack State Park

We took a snowmobile ride (you can rent them at Elkhorn) to this super-well-preserved ghost town, Bannack. There is a warming hut that you can stop at on your way to Montana in the 1800's.

Sweetwater Coffee

Our coffee stop in Dillon. A little run-down from the outside but cute and bohemian inside. Our daughter loved the hot lemonade after snowmobiling!

Actually in little Dell, MT, an hour from Dillon. They serve home-cooked food in a schoolhouse, and when it's busy, you just share a table with the locals.
