We took my mom here, who trained as a figure skater in her younger days, to skate on the “biggest rink in the world!” Canyon Ferry’s conditions make it excellent for smooth black ice, and also for ice boaters, which we saw several of! Part of the treat was witnessing the ice boaters just wailing across the ice…wicked fast! We actually wound up joining their little tailgate party later. (I would recommend doing so too. Midwesterners are so dang nice!) We saw people “walking” their dogs on ice skates on the lake…and others who were seriously into it for some sort of speed-skating style workout. This lake is fun in the summer but it’s even more special in the winter frozen over into a massive rink.
